January Is Cervical Health Awareness Month

More than 12,000 women each year will be diagnosed with cervical cancer.  The cervix is the lower part of the uterus.  Risk factors for cervical cancer include exposure to HPV, human papilloma virus, a weak immune system and smoking.  It is important for women to be screened by their GYN with a PAP smear to detect abnormal cells and HPV infection. Treatment is best at early stages.
